What This Is

March 4, 2010

I believe it’s possible to fill out your whole curriculum online–for free. This site is basically the curriculum our family uses. I’ve started putting together curriculum using only links from this site. Find the link to the curriculum on the right at the bottom. There are also tips on organizing these links to make your own free curriculum. The site is in outline style. Start finding what you need by going to the appropriate main heading in the right side bar. Don’t forget to check out the Extras and General Resources pages! Bloggers can grab the code for the button; it’s at the bottom of the sidebar.

For this week’s freebies just scroll down.

This is acting strange and not allowing to link things. So below you can find the link (copy and paste) to cspan where they are giving away electoral map posters. Homeschoolers allowed :)  You need to sign up of course, but it’s free with free delivery. There are also electoral map lesson plans on their site.

Since this isn’t letting me post links, I’ll stop there for today. Currclick has an interesting one this week. It’s a biography workbook on Olaf the first, king of Norway. Didn’t know about him.

Catch ya later.

My parents are almost back to America, probably over the Atlantic at the moment. Things are almost back to normal here.

Currclick’s freebie is winter vocabulary. I don’t understand who learns the word snow from a flashcard???

Fortunately for You has copywork based on Martin Luther King, Jr.

Check out this cool tool for making online projects! I’m definitely going to try this. If you want to see how I use tools like this, follow my regular homeschool blog,  Just Us.

Just a quick post. Today’s language and culture club meeting is at 1pm and our special guest is a Christian from Iran. The meeting is at a different classroom than normal. Now at Currclick.com you enter classrooms through your account page. Under “My Library” you can view your classes and clubs. Just keep click on the club name link and you’ll find your way to the classroom. I hope! It’s a new system and today’s our first time trying it out. Hope you can make it!

BTW, this week’s Currclick freebie is math games for place value.

Happy New Year!

January 1, 2012

Sorry, I’ve been AWOL. Hope you had a great Christmas. I’m woozy this morning because the baby was woken up at midnight and, of course, thought it was morning and stayed up until 2:30 until going back to sleep.

I will probably be off for two more weeks. My parents, whom I haven’t seen in a year, are coming for two weeks. I also have a lot of work to do to help my husband get ready for his new Currclick classes. Teaching those classes is such a great job! A few of his students sent him Christmas presents all the way overseas! Some students got together and made French 1 t-shirts and sent him one. Those are the kind of students you want!

If I find something fabulous that won’t last, I’ll write you, don’t worry. In the meantime you can check the Currclick weekly freebie. I’ve not been excited about anything recently. If you own a lite bright, you might want to check out this week’s freebie. When I write again, I’ll remind you of the monthly freebies. :)

While I’m here, I just found a great resource, writing samples for all grade levels. I was excited. Maybe you will be too. I posted it on the Writing/copywork… page under Rubrics/Standards.

Have a great week and a blessed new year!

Freebies, Do It Yourself, Protect Your Family

Today is Currclick’s Language and Culture Club day. Today he’s doing something different. He’ll be talking about December Holidays around the world.  Decemeber 13th, 1PM CST  http://currclick.adobeconnect.com/languageandculture

Bethlehem scene  –  I don’t have this on the site anywhere, but if you are looking for a new craft for Christmas, this is making models out of paper.

Chronicles of Narnia — audio books — download the whole series or listen online

Currclick  has a Christmas word search book.

My new favorite online toy is a puzzle maker, PuzzleFast. You type in the words once and then can print out or (I like even better) do online word searches, unscramble and crossword puzzles. Nice for vocab and spelling.

I’ve also been making online games with this fun site, class tools.  You just type in the question and answer. Save. Then you have a webpage with a game on it. It doesn’t save the link for you anywhere. Bookmark the page or save the link to your page somewhere. My kids love playing the games I’ve made. At the top of the list is an arcade creator. That’s the best for games. There are also many online graphic organizers you could use.

One thing we deal with a lot as people who use free things is ads. I wanted to let you know that sometimes you can do something about the ads. At sheppard software I contacted them about an ad that I thought was inappropriate for a children’s educational site, and they had it down within the hour. I was really impressed with them. You can help all of us by reporting (or trying to report) inappropriate ads. Unfortunately, Google controls the majority of ads. As far as I can tell, they have no way of reporting something as offensive. There is a little triangle at the top right of ads that says “Ad Choices.” You can “manage your preferences.” Now, I changed my preferences to like home and garden and (I hope you won’t think I’m evil, I’m just trying to protect my kids) I put my age as 65+ :)  The only problem is that it doesn’t listen to you. It constantly readjusts itself to what websites you go to. I have edited my preferences any time I start seeing things I don’t like. Our biggest problem is my son is learning to program online games. He’s gone to tutorial websites and Google registers his interest in online games. You know how awful those online game ads can be.

Yahoo has a profile where you can change yourself to be a 70-year-old man. That gets rid of all the diet ads with girls in bikinis :)  Microsoft has an easy way to report an ad as offensive, but as far as I can tell reporting it does nothing.

I hope you are all doing well. I was asked to share this free ebook by Sidetracked Sarah. It’s a craft a day until Christmas. You have to subscribe to get it though.

Are you following Homeschool Freebie of the Day? I hardly ever stop by actually. I did this week though, to get the info on Economics in One Lesson. One quick google search and I have it saved on the Government and Economics page. Always available :)

Currclick has a “Holiday Helper” this week. It has artwork, short stories/poems and copywork.

Currclick is having a Christmas sale. I actually bought something I’ve been thinking about.

Fortunately for You has A Christmas Carol ebook. I’m not sure what the difference is between this and what’s available online. This and all classic literature is available always. I usually go to archive.org to search for books, but there are many, many places online.

Have a great week.

Currclick facebook freebie, coupon code mathgames, It’s math vocabulary cards.

12 Days of Freebies for Simple Schooling — you’ll have to go each day to get them all. Today is day 1.

Currclick’s weekly freebie, Is this a recipe book? It’s food for the holiday season.

Speaking of which, I just ordered from Amazon.com my very own cookbook. I didn’t put it up for sale I just put our recipes in a Word document, saved it as a pdf, and submitted it to Amazon.com’s create space program. I ordered a few “proofs”of my work for a few dollars each. I will have for Christmas bound cookbooks for myself and couple family members. Create Space is what I used when I published my novel, which by the way would make a great Christmas present ;)

We started our advent calendar today. My daughter made it from matchboxes. She made each one look like a present and numbered them. We hot glued them to a green poster board in a Christmas tree shape. In each box I wrote a Scripture reference and then put a little candy for each kid in each box. The candy keeps everyone nice and quiet while we read the verses. The kids love advent!

Vocab for the Secret Garden  from Fortunately for You

Thanksgiving “Fun Book” from Simply Schooling

And for the younger crowd, Currclick has a Thanksgiving pack for 3-6 year olds

On the American History page I’ve added a new Iroquois Indian lapbook and Colonial America lapbook. They aren’t listed in the curriculum, so I thought I’d mention them. New options…

Right now I’m working on 20th century history. I’m making timeline minibooks that I’ll share when I’m done. I’ve made it to WWII so far. And that’s how far I’ve gotten in the curriculum I’m building. I hope some of you will be able to use it, though it’s years from being completely done. At the end of this school year, one year will be done of history, science, Bible, art, music, computer and PE/health. Also 1st, 4th and 6th grade will be done. It’s been super for us. School is just waiting on the computer. They just have to sit down, find what day they are on and go through the activities. Speaking of which, I need to go work on it now :) I have been keeping 6 weeks ahead of my kids in my planning. I don’t want to get behind!
